Alan had a dream to dive with the sharks and so he traveled to the Caribbean to do just that. In this painting he wanted to capture the grace and beauty of these creatures. He has included a turtle off in the distance on the left side of the painting to show the order, peace and harmony that exists in the ocean. While diving with the sharks he saw many sharks with hooks trailing out of their mouths because of the careless tagging done by fisherman. So, in painting these beautiful creatures he removed the hooks but added a scar on each shark’s mouth to show the impact of man on them and how lightly humans need to tread to not upset the natural order of things in the sea. The survival of all of us will be determined by the survival of our oceans.
